Carly here!

As you may well know, the founder of Inspo, Kacey Lake, just recently welcomed baby #4, sweet Josie Joy Lake, into the world. She will be here on Inspo to introduce her soon. For now, she is spending her time taking it easy and living out her days slowly and intentionally, as every new mama should. I had a laugh when she told me – “I do things like put ice in my kids’ water bottles and wipe off drips of coffee from the outside of my mug with an actual paper towel.” Ha! I definitely knew what she meant! And there’s nothing more necessary than some slow days when there’s a newborn to get acquainted with.

But even with all those coffee drips to tend to, Kacey took the time to forward me this article from Valerie Chang of UK’s Business Insider. We both thought it was an insightful read to pass along!

“It Was Never a Dress” Campaign

Did it ever occur to you that the bathroom sign figure for ladies might not be wearing a dress, but something else instead?

Programmer and author Tania Katan aims to “shift perceptions and assumptions about women and the audacious, sensitive, and powerful gestures they make every single day.”

So, she took to revamping the conventional dress-wearing figure into one that dons a superhero cape.

She writes: “In science, technology, arts, mathematics, politics, houses of worship, on the streets, and in our homes, insightful women are often uninvited, overlooked, or just plain dismissed. Through storytelling, community building, innovation and creative disruptions, ‘It Was Never a Dress’ will foster necessary conversations, vital voices, and images from around the world that honor all women. When we see women differently, we see the world differently!”

This campaign was also started to encourage more women to take up jobs in the tech industry.

Others also created their own ‘It Was Never A Dress’ figures in response to the campaign.
